History of gymnastics dates back to the times of the ancient Olympics, where participants used gymnastics exercises in their preparation process. The main styles and trends of modern gymnastics were formed in the 19th century – the time when history of the international sports and Olympic movement commenced. But, the creative development of gymnastics is still going on today. New styles and disciplines appear, new elements and compositions are created, new “stars” are born.

The Azerbaijani National Gymnastics School has come a long way of development, it has gained the world recognition within a short period of time, and, today, it takes its deserved place on the international sports arena. Athletes representing our country succeed to mount the podium at the most prestigious international competitions. Azerbaijan regularly hosts the European and World Championships, World Cup series and other major international competitions at the highest level. Various gymnastics disciplines and trends are successfully and dynamically developing in our country: Rhythmic Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics, Acrobatic Gymnastics, Aerobic Gymnastics, “TeamGym”, Parkour and Gymnastics for All. Gymnastics clubs and sections operate in a number of regions of Azerbaijan. The national coaching school is being successfully developed. There has been created sport infrastructure meeting the highest requirements in Azerbaijan. A unique sports facility - the National Gymnastics Arena has been built - where training camp and large-scale international competitions can be held at the highest level. Olympic complexes have been erected and operate in the regions.

This is a great success that we all - athletes and coaches, choreographers and sports managers, doctors and masseurs - have achieved together. Our achievements are the integral part and logical result of the consistent and thoroughly considered policy of the leadership of Azerbaijan directed to the support of the international sports and Olympic movement, the development of both high-performance sports and mass-participation sports.
