Aerobic Gymnastics

Aerobic Gymnastics is a non-Olympic discipli which requires a serious physical preparation. This sport involves performances of both men and women individually, in mixed pairs, trios (male/female/mixed composition) and in a group of five people (male/female /mixed composition).

Aerobic Gymnastics in the World

In 1983, American athletes Howard and Karen Schwartz invented Aerobic Gymnastics. They gathered a group who wished to attend trainings, and soon the Schwartz were allowed to organize first national championships in the United States. Over the next decade, there was a formation of a new sport, various federations and associations of Aerobic Gymnastics were created. A new sport has attracted new gymnasts, former acrobats and other athletes who had the opportunity to show new facets of their talents. Aerobic Gymnastics includes elements of artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, dance and aerobic base.

Over the next decade, there was a formation of a new sport, various federations and associations of Aerobic Gymnastics were established. A new sport attracted to its ranks of gymnasts, acrobats and other athletes who had an opportunity to show new sides of their talent. Aerobic Gymnastics includes elements of artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, dances and basic aerobics. On May 1994, the congress of International Gymnastics Federation set up the commission on sports aerobics and recognized it as one of types of gymnastics and the International Olympic Committee confirmed its authority. A year later the first World Cup in Aerobic Gymnastics held in Paris. Since 2000, it was decided to hold the World Championships each two years by even years.

Aerobic Gymnastics in Azerbaijan

Aerobic Gymnastics started to develop in Azerbaijan from the beginning of 2014, and on May of the same year as part of our team took third place at the World Cup in Bulgaria. On February 2015, the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation held the first Baku Championships in aerobics. Aerobic Gymnastics was included to the program of the European Games. Two sets of medals (mixed pairs and groups) were played among gymnasts.

During performance, it is required to perform continuous complex movements of high intensity, borrowed from traditional aerobic exercises to music. Gymnasts perform on a special podium with a d of 12x12 m. The total score for the performance sum up of the marks for artistry, performance and difficult. In pairs, trios or groups synchronization during a performance is evaluated. Moreover, the special judges remove scores for various mistakes in the exercise.

  • The greatest number of medals of the World Championships is on the account of gymnasts from Romania.
  • A gymnast-senior must be 18 years old in order to take part in the official competitions held under the leadership of International Gymnastics Federation.
  • In order to provide health and safety of the gymnasts participating in several finals they are given 10 minutes for recovering strength before the next start.
