This sport includes trampoline, double mini-trampoline and tumbling. Trampoline gymnastics involves individual and synchronized competitions (synchro competition pair consists of two women or two men). Only men and women individual performance is recognized as an Olympic discipline (two sets of medal are played).
Trampoline has its origins in the United States in 1930s. In 1955, trampoline breaks into the Pan-American Games, and finally to Europe. The International Federation of Trampoline (FIT) was established in Frankfurt in 1964, and in March of the same year, London hosted the first World Cup in trampolining. In 1999, trampolining officially became the International Gymnastics Federation’s discipline, and in 2000, individual trampoline were included in the program of the Olympic Games and for the first time was presented at the Games in Sydney the same year. Until 2000, trampoline and tumbling were part of acrobatic gymnastics, but then all three disciplines have become separate sports. |
In Azerbaijan, trampoline gymnastics appeared in the mid-2013. The first athlete to represent our country in the international arena was Ruslan Aghamirov, who performed at the World Cup in Denmark in October 2013. In autumn 2014, the Azerbaijani trampoline gymnastics team made a breakthrough. For the first time in the history of independent Azerbaijan, Oleg Piunov and Ilya Grishunin became prizewinners of the World Cup in Portugal performing in synchronized pairing. This sport is still at the stage of development in Azerbaijan and each year is gaining new momentum. Individual and synchronized trampoline were included in the program of the European Games. Trampoline gymnasts compete for four sets of medals (men and women). As part of trampoline, tumbling already has its own traditions in Azerbaijan and gaining popularity along with other gymnastics disciplines. Trainings are mainly held in Baku Gymnastics School.
Individual competition
|
An exercise which includes ten elements and should be performed on trampoline. Trampoline is a high-strength wicker mesh, stretched by rubber or metal springs on a metal frame. Such trampolines are made of heavy-duty materials (galvanized steel for the frame and the springs, elastic mesh made of cord with diameter of 5mm) and should have a large jumping surface. Elements are performed during high, continuous rhythmic jumps with rotations from feet to feet, from feet on the back or stomach. A panel of judges evaluates execution, time of flight and difficulty of the routine. |
Synchronized competition
|
An exercise that features different elements and should be performed by two men or two women on two trampoline at the same time. Partners must simultaneously perform the same elements and to begin exercise facing in the same direction. However, moving in the same direction in the air is not necessarily. The evaluation of execution, difficulty and synchronization sums up the final score for the routine. A gymnast may only compete in one synchronized pairing. |
Double mini-trampoline
|
Is a gymnastics equipment smaller than conventional trampoline. Includes two parts - sloped and flat. During the competition, gymnast runs up and then jumps onto a sloped part performing a certain element. Then jumps on a flat part and lands on the mat, established below the trampoline. Exercises performed on the double mini-trampoline are evaluated in the same way as exercises performed on a usual trampoline, however, landing outside the outer lines or impure landing cause deduction of points. |
Tumbling
|
Exercises are performed on a special track with length of 25.2 meters. A gymnast should perform jumps with rotation rhythmically from hands on legs and from feet to feet at a constant speed without stopping and intermediate steps. Acrobatic combination may include a series of jumps with the front, back and sidelong rotations. Exercise should be done with a good coordination, technique and maintaining momentum without repeating elements in each exercise. |
- Some other sports, for example, diving uses the trampoline during the trainings;
- World Championships are held 3 times in 4 years (in the year of the Olympics World Championships are not held); European Championships are held every two years;
- Synchronized trampoline, tumbling and double mini-trampoline are presented at the World Games, which take place every four years.
