Young Azerbaijani gymnasts have won three medals at the international tournament held in Kaliningrad.
According to the press service of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, the first medal was put into our team’s medal box by an 8-year old gymnast of Baku Gymnastics School Vafa Hasanzada who won the “silver”. The competitions’ organizers had been so fascinated by her performance that they gave this little girl the title of the tournament’s “Miss Grace”.
Another 2 bronze medals were won by Ilaha Mammadova (born in 2001) and a 12-year-old Nilufar Niftaliyeva.
Our other gymnasts Albina Aliyeva (born in 1995) and Sabina Hummatova (1999) took the 4-5th places accordingly.
An Azerbaijani jumper Hafiz Rzayev, performing at the “Bondarev’s Cup” international tournament in tumbling and acrobatic gymnastics held in Minsk, was also honored with the highest place.
In the final, he executed a triple somersault two times but there were inaccuracies while he was touching down and he became the 5th as a result.
The fifth place was also won by the junior women’s pair consisting of Aynur Huseynova and Narmin Ramazanova having taken the lead over their team-mates and more experienced duet – Afag Maharramli-Parizad Guliyeva who became the eights.
Finally, Elvin Aghadadayev having defended the title of the country’s all-around champion in artistic gymnastics a month ago, repeated the result at Baku Championship as well. Exercises performed by Elvin on all 6 apparatus were smoother and more accurate in comparison with his followers, Ughur Khalilbayli and Rashad Jafarli, who became the second and third accordingly.
Among the candidates for masters of sports, Mirvagif Baghirov gained a victory, and Emil Saidov became Baku champion among the first-grade gymnasts.
