On May 7-8, there have been held the FIG (International Federation of Gymnastics) Council meetings in Bangkok (Thailand).
Within the framework of the meetings, Secretary General of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation Farid Gayibov made a presentation for the participants concerning Azerbaijan’s bid to host next meetings of the FIG Council in Baku.
According to the Council’s decision, members of the FIG Council will gather in Baku on May 6-7 for the first time.
In the course of the meetings, there was held a draw determining order of the athletes’ performances in the qualification of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games’ gymnastics disciplines events where Azerbaijan will be represented by 3 gymnasts (Marina Durunda – Rhythmic Gymnastics, Oleg Stepko and Petro Pakhnyuk – Men’s Artistic Gymnastics).
The Council is the second highest authority of the FIG (the first is the Congress) held annually in May. Functions of the Council, consisting of 44 members, comprises a consideration of the FIG President’s report, ratification of the acts of the FIG Executive Committee, revision of Technical Regulations, approval of annual accounts, budgets of competitions and etc.
Baku will witness important decisions of the first FIG Council within the next 2017-2020 Olympic Cycle.
